About

Atlantic Retina Center opened in January 2004 by Dr. Joseph Schwartz who was joined later in the year by Dr. James Rial; in 2012 Dr. Paul Lagonigro joined the practice; all of our physicians are fellowship trained retina specialist who are Board Certified by The American Academy of Ophthalmology; together they specialize in treating diseases of the retina.

The retina is a thin film of nerve tissue that lines the back of the eye, it senses visual images and transmits them to the vision center in the brain. The macula is the center of the retina responsible for your central vision. Common conditions that can affect the retina include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration (both which are leading causes of blindness), as well as retinal tears or detachments, macular holes or puckers in addition to occlusions of retinal blood vessels.

The main office is conveniently located near the intersection of Route 50 and Route 13 bypass in Salisbury, Maryland. Atlantic Retina Center offers several satellite locations for the convenience of our patients in Dover, Easton, Ocean Pines and Chestertown; in addition our physicians are the retina specialist for Delaware Eye Institute in Rehoboth, Delaware.

The staff members of Atlantic Retina Center are highly trained in the latest ophthalmic eye care technologies. We are committed to providing the highest quality state-of-the-art care for our patients with retinal diseases in a warm, caring environment; our mission is to treat patients the way we would like our family to be treated.
