Dr. Navarro is a prominent researcher, practitioner and educator in the field of liver disease and transplant who has received numerous awards, authored dozens of scholarly publications and done groundbreaking research funded by prestigious grants from the National Institutes of Health. In 1995, Dr. Navarro joined the faculty of the Yale University School of Medicine as Assistant Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology and Director of the Liver Failure and Transplantation Program. He was also the Director of the State of Connecticut Emerging Infections Program – Liver Study Unit. Dr. Navarro joined the Clinical Pharmacology group at Merck Research Laboratories in 2001 while continuing as an adjunct faculty member at Yale. In 2002, he joined Thomas Jefferson University, where he was Professor of Medicine, Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, and Medical Director of the Hepatology and the Liver Transplant Program. His scholarly works include multiple textbook chapters and peer-reviewed publications in prominent journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, the Annals of Internal Medicine, JAMA, and many other subspecialty journals. He serves on the Residency Review Committee for Internal Medicine (ACGME), and also as a scientific reviewer for the National Institutes of Health for its awards in liver transplantation, and intramural and extramural fellowship training. He has been recognized as a “Top Doc” by Philadelphia magazine by Castle Connolly, a national peer-survey organization.
